AN INTRODUCTION TO WEB PAGE DEVELOPMENT

Objective: By the end of this session, you will have completed your website (ready to publish) with four pages and any of the following chosen components: interactive form, animation, sound, table of contents, shared borders and banners, search form,  guest book,  and counter.

  • Review the Basics.

 

  • Discuss elements of good Web page design (Define aspects and observe models).
    • Well Organized Structure (pieces go together)
    • Focused Information – text, graphics, layout
    • Consistency Between Pages – color, font
    • Easy Navigation – predictable
    • Easy to read – font choices
    • Well-maintained information and links- have someone check and recheck – use link check and check spelling
    • Fits the audience - photos, loading time color, etc…

 

  • Evaluate list of websites.

 

  • Open a new web, add and save pages, select themes, add banners, horizontal line, shared borders, insert pages, insert components and a sound file.

 

  • Finish creating your site. I’ll be on-call to help troubleshoot or make suggestions.

 

  • Publishing your Web: FTP programs and server requirements

 

  • HTML Tags for search engines – Meta tag for search engines

o      http://www.microsoft.com/education/tutorial/default.asp - Microsoft has a wealth of tutorials on all kinds of Windows products. Explore the two tutorial links but also go to the In and Out of the Classroom link for educational purposes.

o      http://www.help2go.com - This site has lots of very simple tutorials on a bunch of technology-related subjects. There is nothing specifically discussing FP 200, but it has lots of related topics.

o      http://www.mjswebularworld.com/html.htm - Many links to easy, step-by-step tutorials

o      http://htmlgoodies.earthweb.com/tutors/basics.html  - Excellent source of specific HTML help.

o      http://www.webcom.com/glossary/ - Glossary of Internet-related terms. Look up Met Information or Meta Tags, for example.
