Go to http://www.yahoo.com get an mail address. If you have another address, link your new address to it.

ACTIVITY II (40 minutes)

Teachers

Browse the resources on our http://swadulted.com/instructor.htm and respond to the following items:

  • How many topics are discussed on that page?

  • What sites did you visit?

  • What section is the most useful to you and why?

  • What sections are missing?

Students

Go to the http://swadulted.com/students.htm and browse the resources on that page. Follow at least three links that appeal to you. Respond to the following items:

Did you like any of the sites you visited? Why or why not.

What other topics would you like to see on your student page?

ACTIVITY III (30 minutes)

Teachers

Visit http://literacynet.org/lincs/showcase.html, click on one of the two activities. If you are a teacher, comment on the possible usefulness of that activity with your students. 

Students

Choose one of the two exercises:

ACTIVITY IV (40 minutes)

Teachers and Students

Visit http://literacynet.org/cnnsf/ and click on the story of the week. Comment on how useful you think that story could be in your instruction. Use the various learning options on the menu. Visit other stories if you like and have time.

ACTIVITY V (35 minutes)

Teachers

Microsoft has wonderful resources for teachers. Go to their "Productivity" page http://www.microsoft.com/education/lesson/productivity/default.asp.

  1. Select one lesson in each of the three subject areas listed. Click "Go" to see the lesson

  2. Go through the lesson. 

  3. Comment on the lesson using the chart below. 

  4. Rate the lesson between 1-10, using the following criteria.

  • Adult level

  • Of interest to my students and to me

  • Clear and easy to follow

  • Address different learning preferences and intelligences

  • Easy to assess

  • Integrates several skills (math, reading, functional knowledge, etc...)

  1. Comment on the lesson to the rest of the group

Go to http://helping.apa.org/changeyourmind -Change Your Mind: A Guide for Teeangers. "Good mental health leads to positive self-image and in turn, satisfying relationships with friends and others. It is not uncommon for teenagers to develop problems with their mental health. National statistics indicate that one in every five teens has some type of mental health problem in any given year. The problems range from mild to severe. Sadly, suicide is the third leading cause of death among teens."

Read through the information on this site and comment on how useful it is to you or to teenagers you know.
