Following is a very limited list of ESL sites for students and for teachers who want resources. I'm sure the list will grow as I have a chance to visit links and recommend resources. Have fun with the ones below!
This is one of the oldest and most successful ESL sites on the Web. It keeps expanding with wonderful activities, exercises, quizzes, and other interesting stuff. Following are some basic links from Dave Sperling's site. I attended one of Dave's all-day workshops prior to a TESOL conference in Orlando a few years back and found him to be a very caring, student-oriented person. Great site!

http://www.teachers.net/mentors/esl_language/
From their Home Page: "Welcome to the ESL/EFL Chatboard. This resource is dedicated to discussions related to teaching English as a second language and English as a foreign language. Please bookmark this resource and contribute often, and subscribe to our ESL/EFL Mailring. Be sure to tell your colleagues about the many free resources for teachers on Teachers.Net! "
I haven't joined any of the chats, but some of the hundreds of topics discussed sound interesting.

http://lc.byuh.edu/cnn_n/CNN-N.html
This page features Grammar and Vocabulary exercises for ESL Students. It is based upon a favorite (usually from Wednesday's) weekly Newsroom or WorldView Broadcast by Turner Educational Services Inc. and is available on a private, noncommercial basis each Monday throughout the school year.
"Every Monday through Friday at 4:30 am Eastern Time (USA), two 15-minute, commercial-free news and features programs are aired via satellite or cable throughout the world on the regular CNN TV channel. Unfortunately, copyright laws restrict videotaping and later classroom exhibition of most programming--including regular CNN! However, since August 14, 1989, Turner Educational Services, Inc. have been airing the daily CNN Newsroom and, since the fall of 1995, the CNN Newsroom WorldView for classroom use.
Any school may use these programs free of charge, the only requirement being to fill out and mail a simple and free School Enrollment and Licensing Form to Turner Educational Services, One CNN Center Box 105366, Atlanta,Georgia 30348-5366 USA; the form may be obtained by calling 1-800-344-6219. Or you can now enroll at The CNN Newsroom Enrollment WEB Site! Upon enrolling, educators may tape CNN Newsroom at school or at home for use in their classrooms, and the tapes may be kept as long as they are needed, provided they are used only within the enrolled school's curriculum. Any country that has access to CNN through satellite or cable also receives CNN Newsroom and may take advantage of the educational opportunities that accompany it."This site includes a number of very well developed exercises to reinforce grammar and vocabulary. Reading can be downloaded and used in class. would call this an advanced site. The exercises have fill-in-the-blank options which are corrected on-line. Another option allows you to print the exercise for students to complete off-line. The readings are great and stimulating, with lots and lots of variety.
This site provides information and practice exercises for taking the TOEFL exam. For advances students only.
