WORKSHOPS
Intro
to Instructional Technology
4 hours |
Teachers
are often anxious to apply technology in their instruction.
However, they often do not know what technology to target
first; they are uncertain about the skills required;
they feel inadequate in planning for their own or their
students involvement with different types of media.
This session introduces instructors to the most simple
ways of integrating technology into instruction and
promises that each participant will leave with a curriculum
segment that can be immediately applied in their work
with students.
|
Learning
through the Internet
4
hours
|
Teachers and students who
have not used the Internet much can benefit from some
simple ways to access great sites and information to help
them learn and teach. This workshop explores helpful sites
and has participants complete activities that require
the use of the Internet for learning. |
The
Essence of a Good Lesson Plan, with or without Technology
4
hours |
Teachers who want good results
need to be aware of the essential elements of good lesson
planning. By the end of this workshop, teachers will have
created a template for their own planning and be able
to develop and implement effective objectives and methodologies
in the classroom. |
Curriculum
Development
4
hours |
How do you start creating
a course or a course series? What issues must be addressed
first? How do you assess whether or not the curriculum
is valid? These and other questions will be addressed.
By the end of this session, participants will have filled
out a template to apply in designing a course or a program
in their area of interest, for classroom or distance learning
use. |
Teaching
through Television
8
hours plus practice |
Good teaching is good teaching,
no matter what the medium. But good teachers know to adapt
their instruction to their environment, capitalizing on
what each medium can best showcase. Television is becoming
an ideal distance education medium, whether it is one-way
or interactive. In this workshop, participants will review
basic strategies for ideal television instruction and
actually practice offering segments to their peers.
|
Basic
Computer Skills
4
hours |
For PC users, this session
will cover the basics of computer literacy. It will have
beginning users navigate the windows desktop, work with
files and directories, and create a document in Microsoft
Word. |
Instructing
Native Americans
4hour
of phone conference sessions in addition to online
assignments and readings. |
Why do so many Native Americans
struggle with learning concepts in most public schools?
Do they learn differently? Do they see the world differently?
Do they have learning characteristics that are common
to a number of other underserved populations? Can instructors
learn to join their struggling students and find new ways
of succeeding with them? This workshop intends to address
those questions and offer a number of models that are
likely to work in on-site and virtual classrooms. Participants
will walk away with a lesson plan template that
they can use immediately with Native Americans and similar
groups who struggle with traditional classroom settings.

Learning
Intelligences
4
hours |
This has nothing
to do with IQ and everything to do with Your-Queue.
To reach many learners,
instructors must get out of the common queue-mode (linear)
and be willing to examine how other intelligences work
in learning. Gardner's learning intelligences open
the door
to instructors who are willing to try anything to help
people learn. This workshop will examine your own learning
intelligences and help you design a template for applying
effective variety into your teaching. |
SCANS
Skills and Competencies
4
hours |
The
Secretary's Commission of Achieving Necessary Skills
(SCANS), initiated by former President Bush and supported
by Vice President Gore, identifies five workplace competencies
and a three-part foundation of skills and personal qualities
that are needed for solid job performance. RECO is
a partner in the Vice President's Skills
Network, designed to encourage communities to share
practices on how to move more American workers into higher-skilled,
higher-wage jobs. This workshop is designed to help teachers
integrate workplace "know-how" into curriculum
and into classroom activities. |
| Web
Page Development
8
hours plus practice |
This workshop series will
guide you through the process of developing a simple but
professional-looking website, using Front Page 2000, which
you can be uses by teachers, students or for business.
By the end of the series, you will have pages that you
can publish at your site, including links, forms, and
a interactive elements. |
